Good SSD to buy?

Postby cjg225 » Sun Oct 12, 2014 10:52 am

If you've seen my General Chatter thread, I am having massive computer problems. I *think* that it may be a bad SSD at this point, but I am still not 100% sure.

I was already thinking of replacing my SSD with a larger one, but was hoping to wait until I am back home in PA in a couple months so I can get help from my PC-genius friend. Don't have that luxury now with my desktop PC pretty much dead. I probably will also need to buy a new copy of Windows 7 because we have no idea whose copy of Win7 I am running right now, anyway (my family's or my friend's).

What are the best SSDs, in your opinion? I've got a 256gb SSD now. I was looking to upgrade that size.

Reliability is a massive key with me. I'll pay more to get a more reliable drive. This SSD appears to be failing for no real reason. It has progressive failed over the last 3 weeks, which has been very frustrating.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I saw your post about a flash sale a while back.

What is the difference between the 840 and 850 series?

The good news there is that if I can survive until I move back home, Black Friday will be a few days away. The bad news is that I might shoot myself before I get there by being stuck with a laptop. :x

Honestly, though, price really isn't a big deal to me in this case. Since my SSD is still under warranty, I might even try to RMA it for a new one *and* buy a new, larger SSD.

My Samsung 840 loads every single game within seconds. ACIV: Black Flag, Battlefield, etc... Everything is ridiculously fast. Map load times are ~5 seconds.
