Computer Crapped Out..

Postby Cawkins » Fri Dec 19, 2014 11:58 am

Hey guys my computer hard drive crapped out and I'm in the market for another one. The only problem I have is I don't know what's good for the cost. If you all don't mind throwing some suggestions down below I've got a budget if about $250 hopefully that's enough.

Are you looking for an SSD + HDD setup with the SSD as the boot and game drive and the HDD as the media and document Drive? If so then i would go with something like this.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($139.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($98.58 @ Newegg)
Total: $238.57
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

I hate Seagate right now because that's all I hear happening to them. Everyone I know who had a seagate drive said they died like 6 months to a year later. They said WD has about the same failure rate but they almost always are DOA and can be returned, as opposed to losing data. Plus a 1 TB external drive of my own from seagate was just checked and after about once a month uses after owning for a year, like an 1/8th of the drive shows errors during HD tune error checking.

If you buy any of the 128G Samsung SSD's they will give you a free copy for far cry 4 which is 59.99 damn good deal if you ask me! Just bought a 500G evo.

How long does this Promo last and where do you go to redeem it? While we are on the subject, what is the difference between the Samsung EVO 840 and the EVO 850, besides price?

I'm not sure it was one for a while I got mine from Amazon. The 850 has improved performance but not by much in my opinion the write speeds and read speeds are very similar.
